CA Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban:
The California Supreme Court has overturned a gay marriage ban in a ruling that would make the nation’s largest state the second one to allow gay and lesbian weddings.
The justices’ 4-3 decision Thursday says domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage. Chief Justice Ron George wrote the opinion.
The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco’s monthlong same-sex wedding march.
The case before the court involved a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn a voter-approved law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

It was a while back—April seems like a life time ago. But LucyBeck and I know belong to one another. Legally and all.

Yesterday, Ramsey, LucyBeck and I shined ourselves up and, with two friends (one of whom happens to be our lawyer) stood in front of a judge and promised to love and care for each other.
Well, LucyBeck didn’t make those promises exactly. She kept showing off her skills with the word “shoes.”
And now the state agrees: LucyBeck has two legal parents.
Afterward, feeling very Marlo Thomas, we flew a kite.
Mar 1, 01:48 pm: On a personal note...
It’s been a little quiet for me—hunkered down away from blogs and email. I’m a crazy dog person. And in August, I had four of them. A father-son combo that I’d shared my home with for 15 years and a dog that came to me with my partner—and whom she’d had for 15 years. And a young dog. A house full of old geezers and a young dog.
Today, we only have the young dog—we began losing them in August and, in February, we had to make hard decisions for two of our dogs. If you’d like to know more—read corny posts and see pictures—there’s stuff here.
And, not entirely without connections, let me just say that the Oakland Veterinary Hospital is wonderful. If anyone can give you confidence that you are doing right, at the end, by your pet, that person is Dr. Dorsey.
