Oct 9, 07:29 pm: You know what stops me from using Second Life?

Have to choose male or female. I don’t see myself fitting in neatly to either category. And, you know, in one degree or another, I bet that’s true of approximately everybody.

It’s a virtual world. It would be nice if the question really did reflect gender and not sex.

    Au Contraire! There are many genderless avatars that you can become, as long as you buy the skins. We aren’t talking much here, like $5.00-10.00 for most. I will tell you what, I will GIVE you $3500 lindens for your birthday present (about $12.00 USD) and it will buy you the skin of your dreams! You could be any animal, cartoon character, michelin tire man (but he is male, i suppose), any object that you choose, completely and resplendantly genderless. Let’s get you started!

    Name yourself a gender neutral name, and you can switch human bodies in appearances – or create a gender neutral one.

    Men are actually gender neutral at the start. But if you hang out where gender is important, you can expect it to be important.
