Jul 5, 10:55 pm: That's a lot of social bookmarking tools

A group of people have come together to work on a Social Bookmarking Tool Analysis (this ad hoc collaboration is made possible by a platform and a license that explicitly make this possible). So far, we’ve got a good list of features and tools going. There are more social bookmarking tools out there than I knew existed. The tools we’ve listed so far are:

I’m working on the details about backflip. Beth Kanter has claimed Jots. If you want to help, jump on board. It’s a big job.

  1. What kind of timeline are you hoping for? I’d be willing to take a crack at gathering the info for del.icio.us, as long as I didn’t have to do it tomorrow!

  2. John,

No specific timeline. In fact, with the rate at which new tools are emerging it seems that it will be an ongoing endeavor. If you want to take del.icio.us, make sure to claim it over on the social bookmarking comparison draft so that we don’t end up with two people doing the same work.

    Thanks!

  3. How do I sign up and help? I could take blinklist and contribute.

  4. Mike,

You can help be going to ConsultantCommons.org, “registering”http://www.consultantcommons.org/user/register as a user, logging in, and then going to the Social Bookmarking Tool Comparison book (that’s CivicSpace for wiki-like editable page), clicking on the edit tab and claiming the service you want to review.

I do note that the URL you assoicated with your name is for blinklist. If you are member of that organization/company, it might defeat the purpose of some of the analysis. If you are with them, it would be great to get a chance to talk with you some about the service and any use cases you might know about.

  5. Hi,

I’m the guy behind Simpy, and I see it’s on your list. If you have any questions about the service (current version and future plans), or the area of social bookmarking, tagging and folksonomies in general – you got my email, I’ll be happy to help.

  6. Thanks for the offer, Otis. It’s always good to be able to talk to the folks behind the tools. I’ll follow up with you via email as we get to that piece of the tool analysis.
