Jan 22, 03:59 pm: NPTech Skypecast scheduled

It’s Wednesday, 1/24 from 8a-9a (pacific time). Here’s the skypecast info and here’s a proposed agenda.
The password on the agenda is nptech. Feel free to make any changes.

And if you’ve ever hosted a skypecast and have some tips, shoot ‘em my way.

Here’s to the conversation.

Updated: the skypecast link to, you know, the right link (thanks, Nate.

  1. Alas, I’m now booked on Wed. Have a fun time and I hope someone takes great notes and/or recording for a podcast!

  2. Hmm… So I’m reasonably Skype-illiterate, and clicking on the link to the Skypecast info resulted in being told that I have “successfully created a Skypecast”. I need some web 1.0 instructions as to whether there’s a phone number that I can dial into with a more traditional telephony device in order to participate. :-)

  3. If I make it on Wednesday, I’ll record the audio. Peter, it looks like the “official” page for the Skypecast is a little different: https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=292201. If you go there on Wed at 8 am Pacific, there should be a link saying “Join now” or some such…

  4. @Nancy: Sorry we missed your window.

@Peter: I’ll try and find some better instructions and see if that helps.

@Nate: Thanks for correcting the link! I updated the post w/ the correct link.

  5. I know that you can never please everyone with scheduling, but I am quite interested in this conversation, but can’t be coherent at 8 AM to save my life, so I will have to miss this one.

  6. can’t make this time; didn’t run across this til this am by chance. i think there could be many fruitful uses of the nptech tag collection/folksonomy. One gut response re: using the nptech folksonomy for techfinder, is that the folks using nptech and the content flagged as such is a small subset (albeit a great and lovely one) and I don’t think a representative one, of the broader audience for tools like techfinder.

  7. @ Tim, Sorry that 8a was too early for ya. We got good notes though and I’ll be posting a summary and pulling the next steps out of that.

@ Phil: Sorry you didn’t see this in time to join (though not sorry you missed the opening frustration). I agree with you about the broader repersentation of the nptech tag (or, rather, the lack of broader representation).

Most projects—TechFinder, TechSoup, others—have their own needs for a taxonomy. It’d be interesting to see how the nptech tagging data can inform those.
