Dec 21, 03:31 pm: Is this an idea nonprofits can use?
David Weinberger points to the Participatory Culture Foundation’s new project, Bounty County. Bounty County is ”...a listing of coding bounties offered by free and open-source software projects.”
I wonder if this an idea nonprofits can, err, borrow? Could we set something up so that common programming needs (a salesforce add-on, for example, or a way to easily pour data into a mapping program or…)? I’m brainstorming here but what if we put up a list of user cases for common nonprofit needs—maybe the folks at CiviCRM or CivicSpace could lead the charge; how about dot.Organize can lead the charge with documents they already have—and then different nonprofits could each chip in to get the need met and the result could be made largely available? This could be a huge role for tech consultants. Working on drafting the RFPs, user cases etc in a public forum. Then the nonprofits can add what they afford to the mix. And it could provide some needed development incentive for the orgs listed above or for individual programmers.

you’re pretty much thinking what i’m thinking, but longer term. (http://www.unto.net/unto/work/a-new-project-part-20-building-delancey/#comments) for now, nick, matt and i are going to try to turn bounty county into the one stop center for finding quick turnaround paid open source work from across the web. if you can wrangle such coordination between various groups, please, send us your bounties (http://bountycounty.org/send-us-your-bounty/)
