::About

MeStandardI work with social change efforts helping them build the communities necessary to propel their efforts forward. I am currently the co-CEO of TechSoup Global. If you want to talk about the dire state of the world, well, I’m probably not that interested. If you want to talk about what we – you and I – can do to make it different, drop me a note at webb@ext337.org or get me on the hook, 415.710.6688 (cell).

Projects

A few of the things with which I have been associated.

TechSoup Global.

As I said above, I’m co-CEO of TechSoup Global. We’re working to make sure that the people who are working hard to save the world have the technology they need. We’ve got about 170 staff members, mainly in San Francisco, CA, working hard to research technology decisions, make connection between all you do-gooders, and get donations of stuff from major technology companies. If you’re working to make the world better, we want to help you.

NetSquared

NetSquared is a part of TechSoup Global’s Lab program. We’re working hard to figure out what works and what doesn’t and what, in both of those categories, is phenomenally interesting. We do that, not be experimenting ourselves, but finding out what you all are up and to and what you all think is phenomenally interesting.

Frankly, I think we’ve got a way to find great stuff, get it resources, and highlight it so that others can learn that has the potential to be world changing. And I really want you to play along.

nptech tagging project

An early use of tagging by a loosely coupled group to create an ongoing stream of information to promote and educate those working in nonprofit technology. This project, which began as an attempt to create an emergent nonprofit technology taxonomy, was created with zero budget but has managed to gather press in the following places:

The project expanded beyond its original scope and the nptech tag can be found in a variety of platforms, including:

The tag is being used for knowledge sharing, individual and organizational knowledge management, and outreach and promotion.

The GiveList

The Givelist is straight from the brain of Allison Fine and she asked me to help out. We used twitter and a few blog posts to solicit 71 ways to contribute without opening your wallet. Some of them – many of them – are really and genuinely terrific. You should check the list out.

But, mainly, you should think about how easy it is to create a flash campaign and get some momentum behind it.

Disclaimer

I receive money and benefits and expense checks from CompuMentor (the original name behind TechSoup Global – we’re still in the process of changing that). CompuMentor also operates TechSoup Global, TechSoup, and NetSquared.
I’m also a member of the Amazon Associates program. Just trying to make all of my financial stakes clear.

But, still, this is mine. It’s my fault. Blame me.
